Default Black Swan - Comp issue.

I suspect that the bird centred will be an issue for some. The circular framing of the neck led me to go for a centered comp. Does this work? Just noticed that it may need some rotation! This is full frame.

    Thanks Tom

    Tom,
You are right about a bit of CW rotation. I like this comp but am thinking a bit out of the box here and wonder what a circle crop would look like in a rectangular mat and frame?
Also, maybe open up the blacks a little bit, especially back right wing (bird's left). Lovely wing position,
    Gail

Thanks gail - this for me is a real I don't know image. Those back wing areas were in shade - I may try to bring out some detail there.

Tom - you definitely have a winning pose there. You really should try to bring out some more detail from the shadows. And for me it is too centered, but that can easily be fixed with a crop.

I've had a rethink. I have brought more out in the back wing areas - the blacks are sort of right but despite adding alot of black to the blacks it seems bit washed out.

Tom big improvement on the detail and crop. Just wondering if the bright verticals in the background are giving it what you feel is a flat look. IMO they are a bit on the bright side.

    Tom,

The repost is the right direction on the crop. Due to the high contrast I recommend a a reverse s-curve to lower contrast. If there is any detail in the white patch on the beak, try to recover that. Image appears a bit oversharpened but all the contrast could be making it look like that as well. See how it looks sharpened after the reverse s-curve treatment.

i will over sharpen on a BG copy and reduce opacity until I like it.

Thanks Robert -points taken. This has been a bit of a learning image for me. Agreed that the image is far to contrasty - I think this is giving the feeling of it been oversharpened.

Alan - I had not taken those lights parts in the background into consideration. I think the issue is the bird its self - As Robert has pointed out the image is too contrasty.
