    Steve,

Please post the technical information. I was going to comment on DOF and do not find the aperture.

I like the post and head angle - I call the the attitude look. I will be interested in other commentators opinions on that. Good DOF from beak tip to back of head.

I find the perch a bit hot looking - though nothing looks blown. I recommend:

    Highlight selection:

    1) Channels
    palette.
    2)
Ctrl key and click the RGB channel. Photoshop will now create a feathered selection around highlight pixels in the image. Photoshop has selected pixels based on how bright they are. Pure white pixels are selected 100%. Pure black pixels are not selected and pixels falling in-between those two extremes are selected based on a percentage of how close they are to white.

    Adjustment:
    Method 1:
    1) Go back to layer palette - you will see selection.
    2) Create BG copy.
    3) Create mask on the BG copy from the selection.
    4) Selection is grayscale shaded.
    5) Change blending mode to Multiply.
    6) Adjust opacity.

    Method 2:
    1) same
    2) Create Curve Adjustment - mask automatically selected.
    3) Adjust highlights affect branching.

I tried it and liked the affect onthe BG too. If the bird is too dark, paint black on mask.

Like the bird and the pose and the VET COMP. I could do without the lighter parts of the BKGR. The bird looks borderline over-sharpened. Do you sharpen your master files and then reduce them in size?

Nice shot. A bit bright on my monitor, I like the vertical comp. Is the bird a bit oversharpened. Robert didn't mention it so maybe it is me. I really like the curved perch and how his foot is resting on the protruding branch,

Here is it with some of the highlights on perch painted bark color with opacity.
Sharpening is as recommended by Alan Murphy, or as he does, .1 at 500 in unsharp mask. as far as the background, it is as shot. I am not familiar with darkening background areas and leave for two days in 1/2 hour. I will look into the suggested methods when I have some free time.
    thanks for the comments

Wonderful shot. Very beautiful bird. We have them here but Im still waitng to get my oppertunity at one. I really like the perch and I think the colors in the repost are better. I think its a tad over sharpened, but I might be wrong. Well done.
