Default Metadata won't save in Save for Web CS4

I use the Save for Web and Devices option in CS4 to reduce the filesize of my images for BPN. However, CS4 doesn't save my metadata (i.e. f-number, shutterspeed, iso number, etc.) with the images, despite the fact that I have flagged the "all" option under "Metadata". Does anyone experience the same problem and knows what's going on?
For my BPN images, it's a minor nuisance, because I can look up the data in the original file. However, I sometimes also use this function to convert my imported RAW file to JPEG, becasue that option doesn't appear in the "Save as" function. It's nice to have the metadata attached to the JPEG, so you don't have to open the RAW editor every time.
    Thanks in advance!

Is it not saving it or is it being stripped out after uploading it somewhere?

    Hi Chris,

It is not saving it. Right clicking the file in Windows and looking at "Properties", you normally see all the info listed under "advanced", but after using "Saving for Web & Devices", there is no info listed.

You can try resetting the Photoshop settings/preferences.

Hold down Ctrl-Alt-Shift when starting Photoshop and it will prompt you. (Command-Option-Shift for Mac)

Maybe not by default but yes, it can. It has been available since CS4.

Opened RAW in CS4, Saved for web/devices, selected for All Metadata.

Hi Chris, I reset the photoshop settings, but no luck. I notice that my Properties window looks different then yours (I'm using an older version probably). Maybe this is a Windows problem rather than a Photoshop problem? Im using Windows XP 5.1 SP3.

    Yeah, I'm using Win 7 x64.

You can get one of the many free image viewers to verify if the data is there. My guess would be it's XP not displaying it. I did manage to find this note which may help. I don't have an XP machine available to test with anymore.

JPG Properties Summary tab is missing or blank - No EXIF information is displayed

When you right-click a JPG file and choose Properties, the Advanced options in the Summary tab may be blank, and no EXIF information of the digital image is shown. The first thing to verify is to copy the image to another computer to check if the EXIF information was written to the file by the digital camera. If the EXIF information is shown correctly in another computer, and not in your computer, the problem is due to a registry setting. Sometimes, the Summary tab itself may be unavailable.

Most digital cameras store additional information such as the date and time the image was taken, aperture, shutterspeed, ISO, and most other camera settings. These data, also known as "metadata" are stored in a "header". A common type of header is the EXIF (Exchangeable Image File) header. More Information.

    RESOLUTION

Click Start, Run and type this command:

    REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL

    More Information

This fixes the PropertyHandler value at:

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\image\She llEx\PropertyHandler]

    The value for (default) should be {eb9b1153-3b57-4e68-959a-a3266bc3d7fe}

Incorrect or missing PerceivedType registry data for .JPG may also cause this.

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg]

In the right-pane, the REG_SZ value PerceivedType must be set to image

Registering the Shimgvw.dll fixes both these keys. Installation of a third-party image-editing program may have caused this.

Hi Chris, thanks for digging this up! Unfortunately, no go.... I'll try and find a computer with a different Windows version at work, and see what turns up there.
    Cheers!

    Jerry.

It looks like it's a Windows problem. The metadata does show up when I'm opening the file in Bridge. I guess that makes my swith to Bridge as my main photo/file browser definite!
