During my previous visit to the Pilanesberg nature reserve two weekends ago, this Reed Cormorant gave me the pose I was looking for. The BG in natural OOF winter grasses.

Great pose, and a beautiful bird/BG combo. Not sure about the placement of the bird in the frame; feels a little low. Maybe a slightly tighter crop?

Yep - tighter crop. Love the orange black contrast and the barring detail on the beak.
Sharp with lovely colours and BG. Agree with Doug's comment regarding the composition.
Nice light and BG, although a tighter crop might enhance this image it's not hurt as presented.
Here is what I think you guys had in mind.Once again, thanks for all the feedback and suggestions.
Excellent Stu, tighter crop improves the image, like the head turn and a great BG TFS![]()
Beautiful image Stuart! I like the pose, sharpness and complimentary BG. The repost looks better.
Another delicious BG from you, Stu. Cormorants won't win any beauty contests with me, and your shot presents this unattractive bird faithfully. The two crops are a tossup for me. Perhaps another strategy would be to take us a step back from the cormorant; I sense just the beginning of a loss of IQ at the current level. I'm trying to determine whether the problem was the harsh sun, the depth of field, or the tight crop.

excellent light and nice exposure + details, I prefer the repost
