Another Owlet photo from the other day.
Ready to fly (I actually got a flight shot but the BG was really bad.)
The little guy looks like he is wearing an Owl Costume.
That's a really cool shot. If it were me I would probably try to lighten his face just a bit around the eyes as it's tough to see. Maybe even brighten the yellow in the eye to make them stand out. Busy background but birds do live in trees and I like all the lichens on the branches.
Hi Dan- Like the previous post, this one is dark. The sky between the branches is making the meter think there's more light than there is. In these situations you usually end up sacrificing the sky highlights (i.e., blowing them) in favour of the subject. After all, you are making an image of an owl, not a cloudy sky. If you were in auto exposure mode I would have given maybe +2ev to the exposure to compensate, but would have experimented as well. Also like the previous post, the subject is smack-dab in the middle of the frame. This works for some images but not here in my opinion. If you haven't done so, search one or more of the threads on "Rule of Thirds" or "ROT" here at BPN. generally it produces a more pleasing image with more impact if the subject has more room in the frame in the direction it is looking or moving and less room at the back. Generally as well, less room below than above is a good idea. The logic is simple- you want to give your subject room to move into the frame in the direction either implied by the way the bird is facing or the actual movement captured.
