    Default Avocet attack

I saw this one coming but my 40D could not maintain sharp focus on the head. In hindsight, I should have anticipated that too :-) and stopped down a bit to cover for that.

Next frame is even more dynamic but the focus more off.

    All C&C welcome.

A wonderful juxtaposition and those water drops are razor sharp. EXP also right on. Did you see the ETTR Revelation blog post? It should be required reading for all digital photographers especially 7D users.

Yes, I read it. I always try and expose as much to the right as possible...check blinkies and all... However, since I use a non-IS lens, mostly hand-held, there r times when shutter speed puts limits on how much I can expose to the right. With 40D, I dont like to go over iso640..800 at desperate times. The ETTR works best for me when shooting ducks as I always do that on bean bag.

Great action Kaustubh, looks like you did very well here. I like the jumping Avocet and the water trail is a big bonus but the OOF bird does not add much here IMO. nice shot overall.

    Kaustubh:

Good self critique and comments from above. Neat action. I think the back bird would work better if it didn't merge with the front one. The arcing mud drops behind the front bird are really cool.

There is a series of small spots below the left bird, don't think they are OOF water drops or mud drops.

    Cheers

Randy, those small spots are also mud drops.

Brilliant frame , Kaustubh . The water drops make this one amazing . But , I would lose the OOf bird for this one .

I love the mud droplets and birds pose. Excellent kaustubh, like the comp but agree with losing the OOF bird TFS

I am afraid this one is not as great as your usual work (IMHO). I am not sure what it is but even the bird on the right doesn't look very sharp to me. The flying bird is too OOF for my taste....

Thx everyone. I do like the OOF bird as it tells the story.....but I can understand why some would not like it.

Ofer, you are right....the focus is not sharp on the head on the bird on the right. It jumped so quickly that my camera did not track it very well. Since critical focus is further away from the head, the drops came out sharp.

I like the dynamic pose and the mud droplets, Kaustubh. I would prefer the OOF bird was not there but as you stated there is a story to it.

Hi KD, cool 'hopping' pose, and the trailing droplets add an extra dimension. Your usual low angle works well, and I like the colour of the water. I would have preferred the OOF bird not being there.
