    Default Wild Dog Vs Hyaena

This was taken in the Kwando Concession last year. It all erupted infront of us, so could not do much with the POV.

This is my favourite image, though was wondering if anyone finds the the nearest right dog too distracting. I have a different image that is a tighter crop, though I like including the back right dog.

    Hi Russell

would love to have experienced and shot this scene. The right dog does not bother me .. there is really no other crop option that I can see that would not interfere with the central two subjects...

I feel the image could do with some TLC in PP..for me the image is lacking punch not just in the tonal range but in saturation and sharpening .

    Thanks for sharing

Thanks, Peter. Good to get another set of eyes. One of the main problems is that the light is coming from behind the dog at the top right, which I dont feel helps, though my editing was a little rushed.

Had a little play with the PSD.

    Russell,

The veiled look is typical of back-light images. Local contrast enhancement can alleviate that. In the repost using PSCS5 I did:

    1) Local COntrast Enhancement using USM on a BG copy at 20/50/0
    2) Shadow/highlight at S: 52/44/30, H: 87/25/30, Midtone Contrast: +15
    3) Hue/Saturation with -19% on the Magenta
    4) Sharpened

I feel for an action shot where you cannot control what is going on, you created a well composed image that is exciting to view. Nicely done.

Amazing action sequence here Russell. I'm sure that more detail and impact can be brought out although Robert's repost is suffering from working on the posted jpg, it gives an indication of the extra detail to be had.

You should be very, very happy with this one. Robert's processing has shown how much life and energy there is in this image. Excellent work!

Strong shot here Russell, deserving of a rework from RAW I would say. The comp works fine, and you did really well to grab anything here I would imagine, these scenes often take place so quickly that it is easy to miss out altogether. Well done and good to see these kinds of action shots!

Hi Russell, if the repost Robert did can carry that amount of depth & detail, then I think your PP work on the original RAW file & subsequent output should be awesome.

Congrats & look forward to seeing a repost in time.

Amazing action captured Russell. These things happen so seldom and so quickly you did well with the composition and detail.TFS

re-work still looks blue to me.
Photoshop says no "embedded RGB profile"
Wonder if we have a color management thing going on? My browser is Firefox 3.6

Thanks for all your comments, especially Robert with the re-post.

I think there is a magenta cast, though I am heading back to the RAW file and will be able to sort it out then.

Another 5 weeks in Botswana this November, and I should add some more to the collection.

Hi Russell, you know I am reluctant to add to the many reposts you have had on your postings to date, but does this help at all?
