    Default Warthog

This warthog came into our camp one morning. He looked very calm so I decided to try take a few photo's of him with a wide angle. The BG is the Chobe river, would gave prefer a plain BG Nikon D3 14-24 F2.8. 1/40s at F13. +1EV. I was also lucky to get this one sharp due to low SS.

Nice job, definitely an interesting subject. I agree w/ the BG and I'm seeing some compression noise in the sky.
What focal length and subject distance was this?
I don't think you needed f/13. At 14mm and f/8 with focus set at 1m everything from .5m to infinity would have been in focus and you would have had a much better SS.

Hi Steven, this was taken at 24mm. I agree with your comment on F-stop and SS. I was quiet nervous being so close to this guy, took a few shot and decided to leave him alone.

Vivaldo, super shot, and i have no issues with the background. Your shooting angle shows the animal from a new perspective. Great light, nice colour. I can also just make out something a little strange in the sky, perhaps something to do with your downsizing for web? Well done with this shot...
    cheers

absolutely killer perspective Vivaldo! the light helps a lot too!
you certainly were brave - warthogs are not to be messed with at close range

I too see some slight banding in the sky but should only be JPG compression? :2

Rather you than me here Vivaldo, but you got the 'money shot'.

POV cracking, with good detail especially under those conditions, however could you not have increased the ISO, BTW what was it? Lastly, looking at the skyline it looks as if it's running down hill, therefore a slight CCW rotation might help I think, perhaps 0.47 degrees

Killer POV - makes for a unique image.

I agree with the CCW rotation - a little bit is needed.

This is certainly a perspective not many of us will risk getting, well done. Background doesn't bother me, really like this and it makes me smile. I just love warthogs, funny creatures.

Brave man Vivaldo but your bravery certainly paid off. Excellent angle and uncommon perspective :) TFS.

Thanks for looking and commenting it's appreciated Steve I used ISO 200 on this shot. With a wide angle lens one can get away with such a low SS. This original is very sharp but do agree with you. This guy made me very nervous. I was too excited which made me forget about camera settings As suggested above, should have used F8.The sky in the original seems to be fine. Here's a re-post.

Hi Vivaldo, it is always easy with hindsight and from sitting in our comfy armchairs to make suggestions on improving things, but I think we would ALL be nervous in your position and may have fallen into the same trap with settings.

It is still a cracking shot, well done

Excellent image Vivaldo, never seen a Warthog from this perspective before. Well done with those fearsome tusks so close and I quite like the BG.

Great perspective. I remember a Warthog at Chobe Safari Lodge that was virtually tame.

Thanks again for comments Russell these warthog are quite tame, they come into camp and will get very close, they are definitely not shy I did notice that he was getting upset when I got to close so decided to leave him alone.
