Caught this last weekend at a nesting site here in town. Shooting angles & nests high in the hardwoods makes this area a challenge at best to get clean FGs & BGs. I am still thrilled to have found this place although it's proving to be somewhat of a love / hate relationship.... SO MANY birds with comparatively few really clean shot opportunities.
What I like about this image is the wing position and the stick. The tops of the trees don't really bother me that much although I did do some pruning.
What I don't like is the light angle, although the back lit wings show some nice detail I think.
Comments most welcome as always...

I like this a lot but would love to have seen the face a lot brighter. Flash might have been the best route. The exposure for the wings and the rim light is perfect and the image is very sharp. The twig and event the (perfectly placed) thin branches add to the success of the image. later and love, artie

I am guessing this is the nesting sight off HH. I scouted the area a couple of months ago, but haven't shot there. I am going to try to get out this weekend. I've heard you can get shoot from the top of the parking garage, but that seemed a little far for a 400 even with a 1.4. I am guessing you walk the perimeter looking for open shots.
Artie, Steve, Ed... Thank you guys VERY much for your comments and feedback... All greatly appreciated! Will get some batteries for my new flash... Get the better beamer mounted... and get busy!
Mark... I don't think you'll be disappointed if you go out this weekend... and yes... Walking the perimeter has been the most successful for me in the last couple of weeks. Spending time sitting and watching has also been very benificial... I got several shots of this guy bringing sticks back to mama as he took essentially the same flight path (coming and going), the nest was on the edge of the woods and so I positioned myself accordingly. Guess you live in the Dallas area? We should try and meet out there sometime. PM if interested... I live in Wylie.
Thank you again everybody!
Steve
Artie... I have your CD book... Just bought digital basics... Thank you for all your efforts!
