    Default Lake Grizzly with COY

Took this last Thursday in Yellowstone. The cub loves to ride piggy back with mom.

Certainly a cute moment James, the cub leaning over really makes this one.

Would like to have seen more room below, at the foot of the image, perhaps overall, it's just a little tight for me. Photograph in snow is tricky as it fools the metering system, hence the lack of any detail in the FG, just white. You need to manually meter off the snow and then invariably + comp ie +1, but just keep checking the results.

    very cute indeed!

I am trying to comprehend the FOV one would have through that 800mm monster and the 7D at 1.6x crop factor

I have never shot in snow but agree with Steve, there needs to be some detail in the whites, and from other threads I have read his advice on metering seems spot on. Agree it seems a tad tight, but I am guessing this is full frame?

    James,

As mentioned regarding the exposure and the snow, it would help us if you posted full exposure information including the AE mode used.

In this case the 800mm is not your friend. 600mm would have been perfect. You option here if the bear was still would be to frame a bit higher then shown, make image, pan down, make image and stitch in photoshop. Doing this requires manual mode as panning would change the exposure.

A little tight but I love the curious yet cautious stares.

Nice behaviour captured James. Like the eye contact and touches of snow on the bears' coats.
