    Default ID help: Pygmy Nuthatch?

    Greetings. My best guess Pygmy Nuthatch? Santa Cruz, CA mixed pine, scrub brush, near beach. Was picking up bugs between the pine needles...

    Nice image Michael..because of location where you found it, it would have to be a Pygmy..looks like a fresh adult..according to Sibley's.

    A Brown-headed is found only in the southeastern USA, its cap is much browner

    A beauty, I just photographed and saw my first Pygmy this year in Arizona...
