Default Swallows - Shouting at each other.

I have been back to keep an eye on a pair of Swallows that are nesting locally as part of a "Swallows in flight" project that I have undertaken.

This image I believe shows the female protesting to the males advances.

It is difficult to get sufficient shutter speed and DOF and for this image I tried a little fill in flash to help lift the shadows a little.

I think you did a great job getting the eyes in focus and a lovely blurred background. The wing blur adds to the sense of motion that is always a part of swallows. A hard bird to photograph. It might help to lighten the female's face if possible.

Pretty impressive image!! Great action and behaviour! Suprisingly sharp for this relatively low SS. Chests look a bit hot but still a great image IMO!

I also think you did a great job with this shot. I think Sara is right on lighting the face.

    Austin,

Really awesome image!! I love the colors and background. But I would lighten the eye region of both birds, especially the on on the post as the face is in shade.

Killer sweet BKGR and a good job with the flash. Wish for just a fraction more had turn for the bird on our right, the one with the spectacular wing position and lots more on the bird on the left. (The head turned away has resulted in the face being in shadow.)

None-the-less, this is an impressive image.

Excellent shot, I love it... Agree with head turn and eye lighten, but excellent any way...

Wow Stuart! This is an incredibly dynamic shot. Love the open beak's, the slight wing blur and the position of the birds within the frame. The Bg is yummy. I have no nits whatsoever. Another beauty,

Killer image with amazing behavior. I think you could probably light up the left bird's face just a tad to make this an even greater capture. Love the position on that right bird and the graduated BG. Congrats on this one.

I have the same wish as the others of lighting the left bird's face, but a highly effective behaviour image! Your swallow project is moving along quite well...
