I had to return to the site to get more shots when the wind had dropped. The original images produced warm colours which I liked but I have decided to post this one after using the Average Blur technique to correct colour cast.

HI Jonathon, I find the duck a bit too imposing, and the dark head isn't ideal for me either. Interesting pose from your grebe - shame he/she didn't spend more time making a beautiful nest!

Would agree that the duck is distracting and needs to go - possibly by cropping. The greebe is the point of interest and the pose is really interesting. a beautiful bird. Could you have gotten closer or used an extender? Looks like the duck made the mistake of bringing a rounded bill to a sharp beak contest

Jonathan, I like the aggressive mood of the grebe, especially with the open beak. The mallard sure seems totally uninterested, but would leave him in to balance your comp. If you did remove him, I would try a vertical comp to see if it would work.

I posted the image of the duck and the grebe because the grebe was intermittently making aggressive postures toward the duck who appeared to be sublimely oblivious, never even turning a head or even opening it's eye (to my frustration). I must admit I thought the threat of a sharp jab from that bill would have sent the duck scuttling away but it didn't.

    Hi Jonathan:

I like this capture and the story it tells. It's humorous that the duck is being totally oblivious to the grebe, and what a capture this would have made had there been interaction between the two.
