    Default Tulip II

Canon EOS 7D, Canon 180 mm macro lens, three extension tubes (Kenko 36 mm, 20 mm, 12mm), tripod. Manual focus and exposure (ISO 100, 8 seconds at f/3.5). Natural light through north window. All comments and suggestions welcome and appreciated.

The same tulip as my thread of May 24.

Great coloring and neat star-burst effect. The brighter patch down the middle is too defined and bright to me.

I like the colors and composition, good placement of the focus area, I'm not sure about the brightest part in the middle...

Hi Mitch. I have to give you credit for creativity and for trying different approaches, but this one is not working that well for me. My eye goes right to the overly bright white area in the center - if there was more detail there, I'd probably like the image more. This is , to at least some degree, a matter of personal taste, but for my taste, I much prefer your first image of this flower.

    Hey Mitch,
Very cool comp but I have to agree about the brightness. If you can tame that a bit......this has huge potential! You don't want to make it the same tone as the rest....just get some more detail in there as right now it is a bit overpowering. Nice thinking on this comp though!

Thank you all for your comments. You are all right about the bright area, of course (why didn't I see that?!). So here is a repost:

I masked the mild curve that I had already applied, added an Overlay layer and used it to burn the bright area a bit, and painted a touch of color at very low opacity on a color layer. Thanks again!

Thanks, Steve, I agree. Sometimes a subtle change can make all the difference.
