Had the good fortune to spend a month at this SHC nest with the most beautiful light and BG's. The chicks were born exactly one day apart, so this little one is either 1 or 2 days old. I was surprised to see that they inately know how to swim from birth. I loved witnessing and capturing the intimate and humorous moments between the adults and newborns.

What a sweet image and story being told. Not only were you blessed with some great subject matter , but also had great light which you took full advantage of. Big congrats on a beautiful moment in nature captured.

Marina, I like how you have framed this, together with the low angle. Having said that, could you have got slightly lower, as eye level with the chick would have put this over the top. Good eye contact from both, and you have brought out excellent detail, sharpness and colours. Congrats on a fine image.

Hi Stuart: I tried "getting lower" the day before and ended up with waders full of cold water. Therefore, I opted against the loewr angle on this evening. It's difficult to concentrate while photographing with soaking cold pants.:eek:

Hi Marina. I have a soft spot for cranes after having worked with them for four years - and this image really hits that spot! As noted repeatedly above - beautiful light, excellent sharpness and background, and a great moment captured. You are indeed fortunate to live in an area where the cranes are relatively tame and will allow this kind of access. Very well done.
