    Default Great Egret w/ Bluegill

    Sorry, it's an Egret...

Taken today. D3, Sigma 300-800mm f/ 5.6 @ 800mm, Aperture Priority, Spot Meter, +1/3 ev, f/8, 1/1500, ISO 200, beemer SB800 -.5 ev TTL/BL, tripod. Edited in LR, slight crop from top/rt. to put it into a more conventional format and rule of thirds. Image was framed a bit tight on the left so it doesn't leave me many crop options. (I personally think this might work better in landscape had I left more room on the L) I also cloned out some dripping blood and algae from bird.

Main question is about the setting/BG; is it too busy? Should I move it to PS and clone out the yellower spots? Does it look noisy to you? (it has a touch of "grain" at 1:1)

Image is hosted a little larger on flickr (1000px) and is 3200px full size.

    Steven:

Good timing on the capture. Nice angle of bird in frame. In regards to your BG question, I would consider smoothing and toning down the BG a bit.

Based on your description of the crop, I would be inclined to add back some on the right, and crop up from the bottom, down from the top, converting it into a pano landscape. The amount of foreground as is doesn't add a lot.

    Cheers

Pretty much what I was thinking...
I have about 500px on the rt I can add back and go portrait...bird will end up about centered (head) but that can work...

Here's an edit into portrait layout w/ a bit of BG blur at 50% opacity and some cloning. There's probably a few other spots I might "fix" in the leaves if I were going to print it...

    Steven:

I think the comp on the repost is significantly better.

BG is better, but looks a bit 'processed' due to the blur, may want to ease off on the blur a bit.

    Cheers

The bird is a Great egret, not a Great White Heron.

    Jim:

He corrected the ID at the top of the original post, easy to miss.

    Steven:

I went ahead and changed your title to Great Egret.

Thanks, I couldn't see how to change it after the post.
