    Default HDR Grunge

I did an HDR grunge of a old truck located at an abandoned granite quarry near the town of Becket. It was operational from the 1860's to the 1960's and now all that remains are rusted vehicles and mining machinery, mountainous grout piles and a guy derrick with guy cables strewn on the landscape.

The HDR image was made from four exposures, two of which were made in-camera. A third image was made from the first in-camera image, overexposed by one stop in RAW development while the fourth image was created by underexposing the second in-camera image by one stop in RAW development. Thus I had a four stop range of images to work with.

Great looking HDR, and like the POV, Richard. Looks like you did a good job processing to bring out those great colors and textures. Why do old vehicles seem to make the best HDR subjects?

Hi Richard, very nice truck. The HDR really brings out the rust on old vehicles.

Hi Richard, I like the fact you shot this at a low angle. The HDR exposure was handled nicely with all the rust colors popping. The rust and the age of the vehicle is what gives it the interest. The angle it's taken at also has alot to do with it and of course the processing.(to answer Brendan question)

Such a cool composition. The grunge look is well done. I might be tempted to pull back some of the color off the tire-not the rim but just the rubber. The colors you pulled out of that truck are wonderful.

A perfect subject for HDR and your processing is just perfect, Richard. Love the colors and the grunge look to it and off course the perspective. Excellent work!

Excellent composition, angle of view, lens selection! Love how the truck seems to come out of the frame. Excellent HDR work. Thanks for the explanation. I might tone down the brightness of the bg, but it isn't a big deal.

Richard, I have read about this technique for doing HDR but have never tried it. Now I know it can work really well! Love the colors and detail you got. Nicely done!

Thanks everyone for your kind words and comments and for taking time to look. It's very much appreciated.

During the next couple of months I'll be devoting most of my free time to doing some renovations around our home. It seems I've always had difficulty focusing on more than one major project at a time so most likely I won't be doing much photography during this period. I'll still check in from time to time to see how all of you are doing. Thanks to all of you that have offered advice and support during the past few months... you know who you are. Hopefully I've grown and improved as a photographer because of it and others have grown due to my interaction.

    Richard
