The reason I didn't post this frame as my first choice was that this image has a slight bit of movement in the crouching cheetah's head. But there is more space to the left of the topi's head so I can make a less square crop. Interested if the IQ is acceptable. I have others but I'm trying to keep the strong diagonal line. I could also go to Robert's suggestion and stitch some of this lhs to the previous image. Camera techs are the same.

Big difference in sky color, why?
I like first one better for head positions for both cats. I like sky better on this one.
Soooo, from this one I'd take the sky and some lhs and put it on the other, first, one
    BTW, great sighting and shots.

Tom, trying different pp which effects tones and colours but I like your thinking, mix and match!! Though it is a long way from the debate on whether to clone out a blade of grass or not. Perhaps one for ootb rather than wildlife! It was an amazing sighting, one you would have enjoyed I'm sure.

Hilary, not really sure which comp I prefer, but I do very much like the colours you have posted in this shot, very pleasing look to it. I also like the way the kill is portrayed without too much gore at this point in time. All the participants still look quite good
Great POV, and something very different

Thanks Grant. Funny, I remember you commenting once about excessive gore, something which I tend to agree with, although I do have an image which is a bit more gory and I may get around to posting it eventually. I'll do it when you are on safari!

I think the cheetah pose in this image is weaker than my previous one, but the surrounding environment better. I'm undecided still as to which works better for me. Thanks for the comments.

Hilary, personally I like this composition way better...just better balanced overall, at least for my tastes. I quite like the main cheetah's pose as he is staring into the empty space on LHS...colours are much better, particularly the sky.

I would tone down overall highlights with Robert's multiplied highlights layer here as I think it will add more overall pop.

    Thanks for the feedback.

Morkel, I've toned down overall highlights here. Not sure how I feel about it, but appreciate the ideas and always happy to try different things.

Nope, #9 the sky doesn't look "right" and takes attention away from the cats.
You're not adverse to masking to select where/how "corrections" are made, are you?

Tom, not adverse to masking or other manipulations depending on what the end intention of an image is. Very flexible and open minded about the subject but if an image is intended to be used to illustrate a particular place or event, then I'm very careful not to change the initial capture.

I know what you mean about the sky, and I have masked the sky in previous attempts to see what it looks like but I have to say that it is a LOT of work for little reward and at the risk of sounding lazy (which I don't think I am) I'm not sure that this image warrants such efforts. :2

    Appreciate your feedback though, thanks!

Killer low angle Hilary and if it was mine I would go for something in between your post and Morkels.

    Hilary,

One further comment, the sky is noticably different between the two images, your repost certainly has more oomph, a little too much for my taste

Thanks. To be honest and after looking at both for a while I really have to say that I prefer the OP but I respect Morkel's opinion so it's good to follow other people's suggestions and give it a go. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.......

Hi Hilary, just goes to prove, a little change in your PP and you can extract a lot more. The information was there, it just required some gentle coaxing by the look of things.

Personally I feel the image has a bit more character about it compared to your recent posting which did look 'flat' and lacked punch. This is a lot more vibrant, however I think Jamie has a point in that, if you were to combine Morkels & yours, but perhaps use his Cheetahs (only) then that might balance things a bit more. With regard to the stance of the two 'main' cheetahs I think they both have their own merits and it's down to personal taste. Composition wise I think I prefer this one only because you have more room at the foot & to the side (irrespective of the main cheetah), however, knowing how you achieved it was no mean feat and therefore, respect in achieving what you did.
