Got this a few years ago in Israel. I always wonder what is the best way to go - get the shot with stacked TC and not having to crop OR using shorter focal lens to avoid using the stacked TC and then crop.
Same issue when using the x2 converter against not using one and then crop....:2
When using TC it is very important to stop down. Focus was done manually but I think the camera will confirm when getting the focus.
Keeping in mind this was taken with the Mark II - results with the Mark IV should be ever better.

. For me the limit is 1.4X, if the bird is too far I'd just try to get closer if possible, if not I try another day
