Default Yellow Warbler In Song at Dawn

Totally socked in with fog at home yesterday morning so I headed south and a bit inland to my favorite yellow warbler tick infested field :)

There was a high fog here as well and there is a big hill behind where I photograph from so the sun comes up about 30 minutes later than on the flat lands.

For a few moments I had wonderful bright filtered "early" light for this spot. The trees on the hill are still in bud which added to the warm component of the light.

The OOF BG has mostly leafed out now but there is still one stand of maples on the other side of the pond with red buds so I positioned myself with that as a background before the sun reached this spot and at the split second the sun crested the hill behind, this beauty flew in and started singing.

I would have liked just a bit of a head turn as I had to be at this angle to the subject for the BG I wanted, but overall I am, pleased with this image creation.

Best part about this spot is that in 5 years I have never once seen another soul here doing anything. It's just me, the ticks, black flies and the wild life :)

    Nikon D300s, 600VR, TC14EII, ISO 500, f8, 1/320, CW metering, NearUniWB, +.3EV, fill flash with BB at -2.7 EV

Left this tagged as Adobe RGB as the conversion to dRGB really porks the reds and yellows on the web.

Jim, cool angled singing pose with the open beak. Yellows looks good, and the little guy stands out nicely from the smooth BG. I agree with your self critique about the head angle. Hope you didnt bring back any ticks. Tick bite fever isnt too good for humans.

nice calling pose and a good BG, perch is good too. I am OK with head angle. Head yellows look a bit oversat on my screen.

Yellows look fine in my screen. Photoshop shows nothing close to blown and warnings show nothing over saturated. If your browser is converting to sRGB than that would certainly cause it and why I left it tagged aRGB

    Jim:

Good calling pose, well scaled perch, BG,framing.

Very interesting look to his legs and feet. I don't recall seeing this shaggy look on my local yellow warblers. Will have to look back at my images from last year to be sure.

Some of the yellows do look a bit smooth, but obviously you checked the exposure carefully.

    Cheers

Beautiful capture, Jim. I too am wondering what's up with the fee and legs? Might be a disease? The feet and legs should be much thinner than this?

Jim, loved how clean the shot is. Remarkable... considering it is a non-setup warbler shot....very well done. I really like the BG and the calling pose. I am fine with the head position. Subject size and subject placement are perfect.
