Last week I saw my first spotted sandpiper (if I have it IDed correctly). At first I thought the dark stripe running "through" his eye was a shadow, but the other images showed the same stripe. He was standing for only a few minutes among a group of avocets and stilts before flying away. The image is cropped 50% and adjusted in LR3.

Nice look back pose. I like the water ripples. good exposure. Maybe take a bit more off the top?

Hi Wendell, nice look-back pose and you handled the harsh light pretty well! The IQ suffers a bit from the large crop but not too much. I agree with a bit of crop from the top. Good catch!

Nice Spotty Wendell! Great look-back. I think the issue with the IQ is that the focus point was not on the eye- it seems to be more on the back or wing feathers, which look sharp. Sorry if this is obvious advice but it's best to attempt to focus on the eye and use an aperture that will give you the depth of field you want for the rest of the subject.
