    I would have liked it also, but water was not smooth enough to create a mirror reflection that is worth including in the shot. :)

    Troy, excellent work! Color, sharpness, pose, background - all working really well. Love the water and I much prefer to see the bird larger like this than to try to force the reflection. As you said, reflections only work if they are like a mirror image, and even then I don't always want to see the reflection. To me, the reflection shot is a specialty look and not expected to be the norm for every bird in water shot.

    Is that a pipe fish?

    I am not sure, but it looked like worm to me. They dug it from deep in the ground.
