    Default Young Black Bear

I had a sweet up close and personal encounter with this skinny quiet black bear this evening. The bear has such a sweet look about it. I sat with the bear for about 10 minutes until some idiot got out his SUV and walk towards it with his point and shoot. I got out the way quickly as that's too many people in this poor little guys space. When I turned up the bear was so calm eating grass that I was fairly confident (as much as you can be with wild animals) that I could rest my mtn bike down and set up on my tripod about 20 meters (ish at a guess) from him.

    Techs

    Canon 7D, 400MM f5.6L, F5.6, 1/320, ISO 1250, Exp comp -1/3rd

    All C&C is very welcome.

I am still trying to get more fur detail but its tough in the low light and at a high ISO.

Looks great! I see no issue with fur detail. Maybe just some NR on the darker areas in the BG.

I like this a cute pose, but I think a slight adjustment downwards from magenta, and perhaps a slight touch od additional sharpening would boost this further.

Let me know what you think

Jamie, great moment captured well. I have enjoyed your blog, it makes me wish I had more opportunities for bear closer to home. Ken's repost takes it up a notch. TFS

    Thanks Guys.

Ken, I like the repost. I was playing around with the curves for a while last night to balance the green and magneta but couldn't decide so you have helped a lot thank you.

    Jamie,

Thanks I am glad you liked it, the fact that the processing may need a little tweaking, does not mean it is not a great shot in the first place, in fact it is better than great.

    Morkel,

Would you be kind enough to let me know which nits minor or otherwise I missed?

Ken, the colour balance issue you addressed, as well as finite sharpness
I meant to say I agreed with the points you addressed...

Good use of DOF Jamie and nice low angle.

If you are interested I can drop you a line with a guy you should look at and even contact, as he is in BC. Let me know via PM.

Keep up the work, hope to see the beavers posted here too at some point.

Tom, glad you enjoyed the blog. Thanks.

Ken, like you said, this is a great shot so I want to make sure it looks as good as it can so thanks for the tweaks.

Thanks for the compliments guys and there will be more images to come ( I am going to be doing a lot of processing over the next few months).

    Steve, PM sent.

    Jamie,

Nice work. An interesting pose and the look is killer. Anytime you can get an animated look from them, that makes the image excel.

Not at all, what Morkel said was

"Ken's repost takes care of some minor nits..."

the use of some to me at least does not mean all, and Morkel subsequently amended the intention of his comment

Possibly a case of "separated by a common language"
