I revisited the field where I had previously seen lapwing, this time I tried to take images only when the light was coming from behind me. I took a few images as they flew past taking care not to hang around too long as I guessed there must be chicks around somewhere or they would not have taken any interest in me passing by.
    All comments welcome.

I like the eye contact and the open beak. You got a better light angle this time, but it's tough when you don't get even lighting across the entire bird. You may be able to bring up the darks in post, but the 7D doesn't help you in that regard. There's not a lot of fine detail in the frame; was this a significant crop?

Tough light handled well. Nice wing position and the vertical format works well. Does need a bit of detail in the blacks.

+1 on the above comments: like the wing position, good head angle, but the exposure and sharpness aren't quite there...

I have the same problem with image quality. I get a good flight shot, but the subject is a little too far way for good detail. I suspect you are going to keep taking these shots, I know I am, even if the sharpness and detail are soft. It's a great capture of a difficult subject. Thanks for sharing

Thanks for the C&C the bird was about half the height of the frame.

I like the pose. The head/eye looks a bit soft to me.
