    White Pelican, MN

Went to MN a day prior to hosting my black bear workshops to shoot the white pelicans. WHAT A DAY! Definitely on the hit parade for next year.

Sorry, Charles, I'm not a fan of this image.

To me, the image appears confusing -- you have to look carefully at the bird to discern that its in flight and not just flopping in the surf.
Wing Angle directly at the camera doesn't help the image.

That being said, its nice and crisp, and the whites are well executed.

It's definitely a different take and I like how the bird (sharp and perfectly exposed as usual) pops from the unusual background habitat; interesting image.

    Hey Don,

No need to be sorry, different strokes for different folks. I much prefer images that tell a story to those that simply showcase the subject. I have many more with the bird higher and above the rapids, wink.

You said it...a very different image and I love it. Rapids make BG busy but add nicely IMO....also like the sharp froth on the water TFS

This one doesn't really work for me as there is no subject/BG seperation

I like that you have chosen to show the pelican in one of its natural environments. Though the background is distracting, it makes me to concentrate on the bird and how close it is to the rapids. Sharpness of the pelican is excellent.

    Very well taken shot.
For me it blends too well into the confusing bg and doesn't work for me as well.
