I like the composition and don't mind the foreground maple leaves -- in fact they give it a nice visual flow that echos the angle of the twig. The top leaf comes in just below the eye and the viewer's eye follows that along the bill and then up and to the right with the OOF leaf. From a technical perspective, the loss of detail due to the crop is unfortunate. (and perhaps the slow shutter speed? maybe hand-held?). The white wingbars seem to have a touch of blue. You might increase the color temp a bit.
Thanks! I liked the composition, also, and the sense that the bird is looking -- a bit wary -- back at the photographer. About the loss of detail -- yes, there wasn't much light in the woods, and the camera was hand-held, so 400mm at only 1/60th, but of course I had the benefit of image stabilization. The lens and the extender are both the older (now discontinued) models. Perhaps the II lens and the III extender would have improved the detail.
Thanks also for the suggestion to shift the color temperature. I had not altered the white balance or color temp in this photo. I'll give it a try.
