The male Pyrrholuxia is so striking. I was intrigued by this bird when I first saw it at Bosque but never captured a decent image until last week in South Texas from a hide.
Canon 1D3, Canon 400 DO & 1.4 TC @ 560mm

A real beauty, well captured, like the pose, bg, exposure. Quite a bill on this fellow.
I could see a version with a small slice cropped off each side, to keep him in the same relative position in the frame. I think the diagonal lines of the bird and perch would work well with the tighter cropping.
I really like this image. I especially like the nearly parallel diagonal lines formed by the branch & the bird's back, tail, & crest. I also like the BG. Well captured.
Nice shot, every time I see one of these here in AZ it's in the middle of the 500 branches of a Palo Verde tree.
Great dof with 5.6, some times when I'm too close with a 500 the tail can lose a little sharpness, not with this guy in his Sunday best for breeding season.
Great colors on him. I would not crop it as I like a little distance in the direction the animal is looking and the bg is super.
Beautiful bird and a really nice photo.
I think it would look better with a bigger crop if that is possible.
A bit more room at the top and a bit less on the right.
There are some truly beautiful birds in South Texas, and you have made an excellent image of one who is also elusive and difficult to photograph. The image is excellent as is, but try a little off the right side. Not sure that will help but give it try. Thanks for sharing your work.
Super pose Marina, and I like how the body follows the line of the perch. I like the reds on him, and Randy's idea of cropping a bit from the left is a good one. Congrats on getting your first decent image of this species.
It sure is a pretty bird! I like the parallel lines created by the perch and the bird. I might desaturate the BG to emphasize the color of the bird even more.
