I think I posted a facial portrait of this little buck before. This image was taken in the far northern Kruger on one of my favourite loops. This image has just been picked up for publication for a section about Africa's small antelopes. These little guys are tricky to get a shot of standing still and facing you!

    Techs:
    Nikon D300s with Nikkor 200-400mm f4 VR @ 220mm
    f4.0 @ 1/250 SS @ ISO-400

The positioning work well to get the whole side sharp Morkel. Please surroundings round out a nice looking image.

Top marks in achieving the shot Morkel, great detail & pin sharp.

Just wonder if the 'foliage greens' have been pushed/retrieved a little, see below you sign off top right. Some bits look a bit 'solarised' for a better word?

    cheers

Steve - I didn't have to do much in RAW and actually ended up toning down green/yellow sats a tad :2

Nice image Morkel and a really good one to publish to illustrate this hard to photograph antelope. Well done.

Beautiful animal in great setting, plus a rare sighting.

Unbelievably I to can see something strange in the RHS top in the foliage. To me it looks like what can happen when making a selection with Magic Wand and you do not refine the edges accurately, but I fail to see how that could be the case here. Strange is it not, personally I would not worry about it.

Morkel - Congrats on the publication. Nice and clean view with good detail and comp. I see what Steve and Ken are talking about in the upper rhc. I wonder if it is just that some of the foliage was much closer as in the bottom rhc and so it has a different look than the rest.

    thanks for your comments folks

Ken, Steve - I think Rachel has hit the nail on the head as that "solarised" look top right is there in the original RAW, even when I remove all RAW adjustments
