    Thanks Doug,
I had the 3-0 like you ever since I got the camera and changed it a few days ago to 3-3 and I can't believe how good the AF is for BIF....
The focus dosn't jump to the BG so often, there are way more sharp images in a burst - it's like a different camera...

Thanks Jim, just got back from another session and again the results are pretty amazing!!!!!!!!!!
Today I have used the Mark IV and the 600+1.4 and it feels like a completely different story.

For me the one thing that made the difference is changing C.Fn III 3 from 0 to 3. Don't ask me why it works it simply does - BIG TIME !!!!!!!!!!!
I am so happy as BIF looks so easy again....
I guess I will have to eat my hat, apologize to Canon and read the manuals and white paper a bit more carefully next time I buy a new camera....

    I use the following CFNs:

    2:slow-1
    3:0
    4:1
    5:0
    8: 2
    10:0

The rest of the settings do not affect AF performance and are personal preference.

Interesting. I wonder why that would be? As I read it, the only difference between option 0 and option 3 is the first frame in a burst. Option 0 emphasizes subject focus while option 3 emphasizes capturing the frame as quickly as possible. In subsequent frames, focus tracking of the subject is given priority with both options.

My reasoning was that often in wildlife photography, as opposed to BIF, the 1st shot can be vital. I would rather be able to fire without delay on the chance that the camera will achieve focus correctlly for that 1st image. It seems to work well. I'm not sure how it would affect BIF???

I actually found that when I am using 3-3 the first image is not sharp but the rest are...
In any case AF performance in this "new" settings (at least for me) is fantastic!!!
