    Not often that you can catch this species on anything but the side of a tree so I was pleased to capture this one on the side of this log.

    Canon 5D 600mm f4 L (non IS) +1.4 TC iso 800 1/400th f9.0 CW metering +0 tripod mounted

    Paul:

    Sharp, well exposed, nice angle in frame, good display of the strong feet, pleasant background.
    Nice detail in the log, but it is pretty massive and I might do some cropping(left, bottom and right) to downplay that a bit.

    I don't mind the perch size at all (I like big perches such as rocks, stumps, or logs when they are nicely anchored to the bottom of the frame), but I would have placed the subject further left of the frame and with more room above. Beautiful subject with great plumage, and I love the BG. Was this fella attracted to a setup?

    A new bird for me; I always enjoy that! Good sharpness and a nice pose. I like Daniel's idea about the placement of the bird in the frame. Have you tried a vertical crop?
