Lioness on the Serengeti last February. Good thing the flies were on her and not on me! Notice the flies drinking at the eye.

Canon 1D mark IV, 300 mm f/2.8 L IS at f/5, 1/1000 sec, ISO 200. Full image, no crop, aperture priority.

That is hard to look at. Very interesting natural history image.

I too agree on the too much yellow comment - desaturate that a bit and some extra room behind the ear would have been good (ut I do see this is full frame).

Wow, that's got to be annoying. I agree about the yellow.

I always feel so bad for the mammals when we see them covred in flies...It must be so frustrating! Nice detail but yellow channel needs to come down a bit!

Agree with Robert, interesting but hard. Nice close up and the saturation has been mentioned.

Well, I don't see "excess" yellow. I took it into Photoshop and took out yellow (added blue) and any more than about +9 and the chin hair started to look blue. But I did perhaps prefer saturation lowered by -12. Maybe again a white balance judgment thing.

Really amazing the amount of detail, I think you can see fly legs!!! Makes me want to give up the zoom for a prime 300mm!!! Naaay, I like zooming too much. Flies, I also used the Photoshop fly count tool (@+$+*) and it came back with 432 flys !!!!

    Tom
ps - just kidding about the fly count tool. But hey, why not Adobe, you listening?

Tom...maybe I need to clarify...I was not referring to a white balance or colour balance issue...I was referring to the yellows being "oversaturated", and I normally prefer doing selective de-saturation to adjusting colour balance...

    Roger,

This is a wonderful shot, demonstrating a real moment in the life of a lioness. Could be a contest competitor. Thanks.
