    Default white-faced ibis

Usually an inland valley bird here in Northern California, this one turned up on the shoreline of the Bay last week.

50D + 500L f4.5 + non-reporting 1.4x, on tripod. ISO 500, f6.3, 1/1000. Cloned out lots of specular highlights on the raised leg and a few on the beak; medium crop.

Hi Allen, really neat bird and nicely captured! There is a tremendous amount of detail in the feathers of this species and it is difficult to capture. The 50D is definitely up to the task, but I think you need to help it out with more sharpening. Use a very small radius, like 0.3, and a threshold of 0. I like the hunting pose and the composition. Good job with the specular highlights, there are always a lot of those when you have strong light and water together!

Great pose and nice job capturing this species, which is a rarity where I live. Looks like a somewhat large crop to me based on IQ, but if it was a medium crop as you suggest perhaps you could sharpen up the feather detail a bit.

Hi Allan- I agree that the image looks soft on my monitor. Not sure if it will respond favourably to more sharpening but I would give it a try. I attempted a (deconvolution) deblur here in Topaz Infocus and it bought the image out a bit.
