    I thought this species might make a good high key portrait subject as their brilliant green/blue eye stands out so much from the fairly monotone scene.

    Canon 5D 600mm f4 L (non IS) iso 400 1/800th f5.6 manually set, handheld and rested on knee
    Photoshop- slight rotation to suit comp, slight sharpen of features

    I agree this makes a nice high key subject. Love the contrast, details, and how you captured that green eye. well done.

    Hi Paul, Like the nice pose and the black against the sky the image needed just a tad bit more work in PS to bring it to its full potential. All I did was add a bit more contrast with a S curve punched upped the blacks using a selective color adjustment and to finish it added another round of sharpening.

    Man, that emerald eye looks amazing among the black plumage!! I also like the hint of brown on the body feathers. Great comp too, and you waited for the perfect HA. The repost adds some good punch. Well done Paul!!

    P.S. A thin black border around the frame would have helped with this high-key image for web posting IMO...
