Default Male Yellow Warbler on Thorns

Image created this morning under heavy cloud cover. I spent an hour the last two days just watching where these males were displaying from, got there in dense fog this morning and as soon as it started to lift the birds came to life. Interesting that they weren't even singing when the fog was thick.

To me, this could have used a bit more DOF to pick up more of the tail, but I opted to go with a featureless BG instead.

Great flash work and good work on the observations beforehand. If it were mine, I would remove the tiny flash catchlight from the eye as it appears as more of a speck than a catchlight. I also think that this image might benefit from a horizontal composition.

Fantastic image Jim. Love the diagonal perch, sharpness, detail and bg. I like the vert crop, but would probably crop a bit from the top. A bit more dof would've been icing on the cake.
    nicely done.

    Jim:

The soft light helped with your exposure, like the perch and the pose. Excellent fill flash work.

Agree about removing the tiny flash highlight however.

    Cheers

Love the pose and great exposure. Like the crop as is. Agree about removing the flash highlight. Very nicely done.

Love the yellow against the BG and the diagonal perch, if it were mine I would clean up the bill. Still a very sweet image.

    Hi Jim,

I photographed a few females of the species last week in Oklahoma but none as brilliant as this beautiful male. I'm glad to see you got out in weather similar to the stuff we've had in Missouri all weekend. The only way to get a shot is to take a chance between rainstorms. Fantastic work as usual and I wouldn't waste any time trying to make this gorgeous shot any better.
