One more from Costa Rica. Large crop, so IQ is less than ideal, but I liked the pose. Shortened the branch to move flowers closer to birds.

Bill:
They are fun poses, nice symmetry, good job on shortening the branch. Where exactly is the splice?
Well exposed, but IQ as you mentioned.
How are you liking the D7000 vs. the D90?
Cheers
Randy
Sweet image with both birds sharp. Love the perch and the composition.
Thanks Randy. I can't remember exactly where I spliced, but it is approximately halfway between the RH bird and the small bare twig that sticks up before the flowers.
I do like the D7000. I bought it mostly because of its highly touted performance at high ISO, knowing that I would face low-light conditions in Costa Rica. It does indeed out-perform the D90, but is not a totally magic pill and seems to impart a fine-grained noise under some conditions.
Great shot. Love the sharpness in both birds, great light, and pose. Well done.

Hi Bill, very nice pose and light, I think the main reason details are not good is the 80-400 zoom lens, this lens is very old and its optics cannot deliver the image quality needed for high res sensors like the D7000. Now that you have the legendary 500VR, I would discontinue using the zoom lens.

That's good advice, Arash. The 80-400 is certainly no match for the IQ of the 500f4. (Not to mention the AF capability.) When I'm at home I hardly use the zoom any more. Unfortunately, I was using the zoom as a travel lens and didn't have the 500 with me in Costa Rica. This is one of many occasions that I wished for it.
Bill, a good double here, similar poses, and I like their colours. I could see this as a vertical too.![]()
