    Colin:

Strong impact with black background, very strong sense of form from mild side lighting, good colors.
Nice to be able to see both eyes, neat interaction.

Some of the feathers seem smoother than I would expect, esp. with the side lighting. I might try a little selection work and a multiply mode on the heads to bring out a bit more detail.

In a perfect world, would prefer the front bill to be angled down a bit more to give better view of eye area, but all in all a very striking photo.

    Cheers

Striking and elegant and nicely designed. Is the black BKGR shaded cliff?

Thanks Coilin. I knew that something had to be shaded; wonderful effect.

This is an impressive image indeed!! Black BG is usually not my thing as it isn't a natural thing but an effect that happens because of the limit of our equipment. I guess you had to close aperture to keep the white from being clipped - this is what caused the BG to be black. However, it works quite nicely in here. Sharpness and detail look fine to me - wouldn't suggest any selective sharpening. I guess the "smooth" effect of some of the feathers is cause by their angle which doesn't allow any micro shadows on them. Not a problem at all IMHO.

I would try to add some more room on the sides as I feel both areas are a bit tight.

Impressive image. Like the frame and composition. Dark background works very good in my opinion. Love blue rings around the eyes.

    Colin:

I had a chance to look at your image on a different monitor, and still thought there was some room to tease out a bit more texture.

I did what I mentioned, a selection on the lightest areas followed by a light opacity multiply mode.

Just an option to try and tweak a very fine image. I left it fairly subtle, so you may have to flip back and forth to see the difference. It can certainly be adjusted to taste.

    Cheers
