This first year male orchard oriole has been defending territory in a weeping cherry tree near my vegetable garden. He's been there for the last few days. He's managed to chase off at least 2 if not 3 resident adult males in their typical reddish color. He's got a perfect place to build a nest and he's defending it vigorously. I'm waiting to see his blushing bride. In the meantime I'm enjoying his song.

Looks like quite the singer from your accounts and this photo! Good exposure, and sharp. I like the vertical comp - it just just needs a bit more room below IMO. I also wish the perch was better lit. I like the little tongue peeking out

Nicely done with a wonderful singing pose. Ditto Dan on the techs. I'd suggest a bit less room in front & a bit more behind and below; an easy improvement.

Thanks for the comments. Yes, it's an easy fix to add a little more room. I'll give it a try. The light on the perch is a bit more of a problem. It's normally quite dark bark and lighting the underside is not an option. He's sticking around so I might have better options on another perch.

Thanks for the additional info re: perch. You could always try a little fill-flash...I'm sure that would help. In any case, it is a fine image.
