When you get geared up with long lenses to ensure there is enough distance between you and your subject, for 'safety' reasons and to give your subject respect, the last thing you expect is for your subject, a spring cub, to then come and sit beside you whilst Mum (Mom ) goes off to fish. This little guy had no worries or fears, so kindly graced us with his presence for a few minutes before moving on to see what the catch of the day was from Mum. Just goes to prove, having another camera body to hand with a smaller lens is worth doing, if possible.

I am with Rachel here, the detail, the curious expression conveyed by the face and that stretched neck, and the claws, all from a good angle, a winner all the way

    a winner all the way
    Funny that Grant.

This year was a little slow on some of the International circuits with wins, albeit a few, but just got the Royal Photographic Society's award in Nature for the second year, with a Grizzly bear cub previously post here. In fact, five out of the six 'print' entries were accepted, one being Gold. Must be doing something right in my processing.

Nice low POV and I too like the expression. I also like the DOF and detail captured. Those claws look formidable even if it is a cub. Congrats on your awards.

Lovely shot of the cub in the sage grass Steve. I left home without my 70-200 last week and wont ever again becasue I had a similar (not quite as close) encounter with two black bear yearlings in very low light. Goes to show that having more options is sometimes better than reach :)
