Firstly I must thank Ajit Huilgol who let me know about this sanctuary and Oliver Goetzl and Ivo Nornberger of Gulo Film Productions who allowed me to use their vehicle to sit in. Having seen rushes from the documentary they are making about Sloth Bears the finished product will be remarkable. I hope it comes out soon!

These are the poor bears which were used as "Dancing Bears" in India a cruel and unjust fate indeed!

Taken in Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary, Karnataka, India, 2nd April 2011.

Exceptional image Ken. One of those species in my bucket list.

Thanks for your kind comments, I am afraid you may become a little bored with Sloth Bears over the next few weeks

great timing here Ken - and nice to have it out in the open.
looking forward to being "bored" by these cuties! :)

I would maybe sharpen the head some more as the rough texture on the rock below seems to grab my eye for its sharpness - don't know if it was slightly front-focused? :2

    Ken,

Nice action shot for a creature with the word "sloth" in its name.

I like the composition a lot with the size of the boulders just right in the image, with large one left and small one right and the diagonal of the bear lending impact to the dynamics of the action.

i feel you can crop some sky out. Though this gets you close to a square image, I feel that is the best crop. Many try to avoide square cropping, but IMO when it works it works and I think it will work here.

I think Morkel is correct in the sharpness on the bear.
