    I know the HA is not ideal, but I liked the stride and concentration on this one.

    Canon 7D
    Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L
    1/800sec f/6.3 ISO 800

    S/H, levels, sharpening, cleanup in CS5

    Nice one Ian but as you say HA not ideal. This would be over the top with a a HA. The bird looks flashed- was it? Anyway the lighting on the bird balances the BG nicely and really brings out the beautiful grey/pink. Beautifully sharp too!

    Thanks, John. No, no flash on this one. I was kicking myself over the HA, because I really like the rest of it.

    A little bright for me but love that detail and the front leg position just about to break the surface. I would clone out the brown globs behind.

    Hi Ian, I agree with comments above. I think you need to compensate for your camera's metering, as your images seem to have a bit too much exposure in general. Taking a few minutes to clean up the water will give your shore bird images a lot more polish and impact!
