Doing the Happy Dance! part 2
Photographed last week while on Jim Neiger's boat during Jim's and James Shadle's BAA approved "Best of Florida" workshop.
Why I like this image:
I remembered to practice my pre-focusing, using the custom function and temporarily locking the * focus button. Pose also looks like it is doing the "Happy Dance" ... along with happy camper (me) on Jim's boat!
What I would change:
Not sure about the unusual pose looking very awkward ... also I am amazed at the bird's wing blur at 1/2500 second.
Many thanks to Jim Neiger, and also Hi! to fellow participants Ned, Rob & Jack, and also to the second half of the workshop with James Shadle, Fabs and Alfred. I had a BLAST ... it was so much fun!
Thank you for looking, and for all your tips for improvement & helpful comments.
I don't mind the wing blur here, but the face is rather soft compared to the legs/feet. The bright green stalk behind the bittern and the long white one in front are distracting. I think this image would work better as a 2:3 vertical. I'm sure you learned a ton of stuff out there. Keep practising with all that new found info!
I think the pose is what makes this image. Looks like he's doing ballet :D The wing blur add to the image and I think if things were totally frozen they would look more awkward than graceful.
This is super cool, Brian!
I played with it a bit, crop it some, used the burn tool all around the edges, sharpened the face some and blurred the feet a little bit.
Great & unusual pose.... Title fits perfectly. Looks like he's been eating pretty well too....
Brought a big smile to my face... and that's what we're all trying to do isn't it... Evoke some kind of emotional response in the viewer?
Thank you for the great critique Daniel! I am encouraged, and will invest some more time on it to see if I can improve. And totally agree that we learned a ton of stuff ... as well as had so many opportunities to keep on practicing! That was valuable!
Thank you Jim and Steve! I'm so happy you enjoy the pose, and that it brought you a dancing/happy emotion. I know I sure was thrilled!
Thank you Fabs for spending the time on the re-work. I like it very much! Question for you ... how did you know that being more "centered" wouldl work? I also assume that because the Bittern sprang upward ... it makes a vertical a better choice?
This put a smile on my face when I opened the image Brian !!!
A very comical pose and you did well to capture such a great shot. The wing blur doesn't worry me but like you I am very surprized at 1/2500 sec shutter speed!!!
Fabs repost has strengthened the composition. Well done!!
