    Default Savuti Hyaena Head-On

Canon 1Dmk4, Canon 300mm f2.8is, handheld. S/speed 1/250s, f/4.0, iso 1000. Cropped from 16 to 8mp. Processed in ACR 6 and PS. Took this shot before sunrise, when this curious youngster approached my vehicle. I like photographing hyaena and tried to show off this particular one to best effect. Savuti bush camp, Botswana, April 2011.

Grant, I also like hyaena and think they make interesting subjects. The curiosity is shown well here with a nice posture. Love the dof and the delicate grass seed heads. I think the slight view of the dark lips really enhances the hyaena's facial features.

Good perspective Grant, DOF handled well too. I also like the 'stalking' pose and the single stem of grass, just gives it an authenticity to the overall look & feel. As the Hyena is looking passed you I just wonder if it might be better to try a crop where the subject is slightly more off set to the left rather than head on, but perhaps not?

    Nicely processed too.
