Mamma Coot & Chic
The light was harsh and shadows & BG distracting, but this mamma coot only brought her chick's out to feed in the late morning. I've been trying to get more interactive images, and layed on my side in the mud patiently to get this one. I had never seen coot chics, and they just floored me! Topaz Detail, Clean, PB oil.
Brendan, I see what you mean about the light and shadows but I think you created a nice look. I wonder if it would look good with more of a chiaroscuro look to the image -darkening even more of the background-just a thought. I never saw a Coot chick and I would have been so excited to get this shot. Congrats and I hope you get more chances w/ this little one. Great tender moment captured!!

It ain't no Tintoretto, but I gave it a try! Also did some major cloning to try and tame some of the hard shadows.
Brendan, I do like it more. It keeps my eye focused on the interaction. Nice job.
I really like both of them but agree that the 2nd might be stronger...that white beak points right to the chick and it's very prominent in the 2nd post. I'd have layed in the mud for this!
Brendan, I too like both, but like the second a little more for the reason stated by Denise that the viewers attention stays focused on the interaction. Nice capture and processing here

Brendan, this is outstanding! Love the interaction and your repost. Beautiful effect. I have never seen a coot chick either. I would love to see the original.
I really like your image! You captured a tender moment between mother and chick. The Topaz processing works very well here. I saw a photo of a coot chick once before. A face only a mother could love!
