While this winter was a major invasion year for this species, my area was somewhat at the southern edge of their movement. I saw a lot, but most were in active, swirling flocks that didn't land anywhere for more than a minute or two. I finally had one bird yesterday, in a flock of Cedar's, that allowed me to take some images before flying off.
The day was bright and sunny, but the birds were in the shade of a large building. I had to shoot into the shade, with the building in the bg, while trying to prevent sun from hitting the front of my lens and washing out the image. I was pretty happy with the result.
I like it Brandon Great looking bird in a fine pose keeping him on the shade made the difference Would suggest to blur the bg It far enough away it will look natural and will make the bird stand out well As presented is competing Sure wish you did not have the oof bird? in the bg
I wish I had found some of these guys while I was back. Definitely a bit jealous. In this image I like the main subject but just wish the 2nd bird was not in the BG.
I wouldn't mind the OOF bird as much if it's head was not cut off. Still a beautiful image of a beautiful bird. We have plenty in our area now gorging on fruit but they are difficult to isolate in the open. Thank goodness they are on the tame side of things!
