I went to the same place as yesterday and changed only the lens used. (May even be the same bird). Is this better for sharpness, noise, etc.? C&C, please.

Hi Wendall. Sharpness looks good and I don't see a noise issue. I think harsh light was working against you here. The shadow on his neck is very strong.

BTW the Avocet chicks are out here now ... have you seen any there yet?

I've seen none yet, Ian, but it should be soon. Last year i found some chicks in mid-May. Thanks for your critique.

Hi Wendell, this one is a bit sharper but the harsh light makes it very difficult to get a good exposure! You could have gone a little farther with the negative EV. You pretty much have to treat birds with white on them as if they were all white and bring the exposure down accordingly. You will get nicer mid-tones as well! Can you get out to your favorite shooting spots either very early in the morning or later in the evening, when the light is softer?

    Agree with Kerry here.
Also, the light seems to be coming from the right, creating more shadow.
    Whites are hot here.

    Yep, Kerry, can do . . . I'll give it a try . . .

And Troy, odd about the hot whites since they are "tamed" in my LR histogram display.
