Default Melanistic Green Heron = Copied from General

From Andrew McLachlan's (BPN member) blog post!!! CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those folks that have or haven't followed Andrew McLachlan's blog, you might be interested to find out abut his rather odd-colored Green Heron that he photographed in Cuba, on the island of Cayo Santa Maria, in the Jardines del rey archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean. The Jardines del rey is a UNSECO World Biosphere. As it turned out, Andrew had photographed a melanistic or genetic variant of this species. Subsequently, he was invited by Dr. James Kushlan of the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Heron Specialist Group to write a paper on his observations for their inaugural online issue "Journal of Heron Biology and Conservation." It is now believed that this is the first record of such abbarent plumage in Green Herons. If you are interested in reading the article please click here.

This is incredible, and that you were prepared to follow through with this written paper for the benefit of others is wonderful.

Well done Andrew. I remember the thread here. I've known Jim Kushlan for many years. I hadn't realised he had started a heron journal.

Another example that shows that people who are not professional biologists can have a lot to offer the science community. That many keen observers, many now armed with cameras, and you're bound to turn up some amazing stuff.

    Great job, Andrew.
