This is in my yard at a setup. These are gorgeous birds but I find hard to expose.

    Nikon D700, 300mm f2.8, 1.4tc, tripod. F7.1, 1/400, iso 400. Adjusted recovery, raised

contrast, adjusted clarity, cropped in acr, this is about 60% of ff. Small adjustments

and usm in cs3. 7:49 am.

Hello Jack, I agree these are really lovely birds and I miss them and the cardinals from my Indiana home! You did a super job of reigning in the whites here and the blues are very nicely rendered. Nice detail, head angle, composition, and sharp eye. I might suggest toning down the very end of the perch. Nice one!

From a quick check into Photoshop, looks like you exposed it just fine !. Couple of pixels at 253, 254, 255 on the wingtipes, which again is just fine.

    I like it.

    Regards

Lovely bird, and great capture, as these guys are hard to catch for sure. I'm going to order Alan murphy's setup guide, it looks and sounds like a great resource. I'm thinking the perch looks a bit too human "cut" for me.. personal taste i suppose.. congrats on a great capture.

Thanks all for your responses. Don I agree that this is a bad perch, I usually dress it up with something,

    vines or something. Thanks
