This beautiful Avocet was walking back and forth in the muck this morning, sweeping the mudflats for food. Is there a noise problem with this image? Sharp enough? Thanks . . .

Wendell, I see that you used a fast ss but this image looks motion blurred to me.

Hi Wendell, it is indeed a beautiful bird. As Jack mentions though, it is not sharp and this appears to be due to camera motion. I would not hesitate to go to ISO 400 in this case and get a faster ss. The whites are very hot also. I would definitely evict the dark spots at the top of the image.

Concur with the above on the issues. On the plus though, I do like the framing. He's back in the frame, with room to 'walk'. even thos the eye almost lands on the right most 3rd;s point.

Are you using a Lens with IS ? helps a heap. At that shutter speed, I can only assume a non IS lens, or perhaps it hadn't stabilized ? (Excuse mu ignorance, not at all familar with Nikon gear).

    Regards

    Mark.

Mark, with Nikon their VR equals Canon's IS (I think that's right). And the lens I used does not have VR. I do have a lens with that feature and will use it next time. We shall see if it makes a difference with my next post.
