    Default Brown Pelican Silhouette.

From the Hooptie Deux back in February. At the end of a great day, the sunset provided nice colours to go for a silhouette of a pelican passing by. In post the black silhouette was solidified, the WB warmed even more to enhance the colour, and the image cropped slightly to help strenghten the composition. I've made another version featuring an all plain orange BG, but I rather like the two cloud streaks in this one...

Very nice. I like the color and the wing positions. The pelican seems to be place perfectly to me.

Nice pic. I definitely think I would prefer the banding in the sky over a monotone.

To me, the BG is just a bit bright. I think I'd knock the brightness a touch and bump the contrast a touch. For me, the lightness of the BG, when viewed as I'm seeing it now, seems to "bleed" a bit into the bird. (of course, it is a laptop LCD)

I like it all - The cloud lines are ok by me. I like the position of the bird within the frame and the outline details of the bird. Colour of background looks fine to me.

Dan, good angle and flight posture, and just love the colours of the sky BG. I like the inclusion of the cloud streaks. Well captured.

The cloud streaks make the image for me. Beautiful silhouette. Curious why you chose to add one stop on this shot.

Thanks guys! Doug, I set-up my exposure in anticipation of creating a silhouette by using a nearby silhouetted tree. Using evaluative and with the bright orange sky dominating the scene I determined that +1 gave me the best exposure (histogram-wise, pushed to the right) as it was otherwise rendered too dark for my "pre-processed" taste.
