Unlike the spotted Bower Bird (last post) the Satin Bower Bird has a preference for blue objects to decorate the bower (courtship area). Since European settlement these objects include blue drinking straws, blue cloths pegs, blue bottle tops etc.
Here, a female (not in view) has come within the vinicity of the bower and the male immediately goes into courtship display picking up his favourite blue decoration to attract her into the bower ;)

Canon EOS 10, Canon 100-400mm lens, ISO 200, Natural light and fill flash, 1/125sec F11, Hide, Tripod.

What interesting courtship details! Likes blue, has blue eyes and blue sheen to his feathers, which you captured nicely! Bird behavior is endlessly fascinating, isn't it? Thanks for posting both image and information!

Thanks for sharing that information, John. How fascinating! With that courtship behavior in mind, you have beautifully captured the essence of this species. There is so much more to photography than just the technical specs and the artistry. To paraphrase a line from a Rod Stewart song, "every picture really does tell a story!" Great work!
